Poole Pottery book re-launch......

Tomorrow sees the launch of the new edition of the Poole Pottery book at the famous Poole Pottery on Poole Quay. The book’s authors, Leslie Hayward and the Antique Road show’s pottery expert Paul Atterbury will be attending and signing copies as well as a host of Poole Pottery’s artists past and present.
As the title suggests, Poole Pottery 1873 – 2011 covers the entire turbulent history of the world famous pottery from it’s inception to present day.
Rescued from the receivers by the Lifestyle group in 2007, Poole was at the time a pottery without a factory! Lifestyle took the bold decision to buy a factory, and at the same time acquired another iconic pottery brand, Royal Staffordshire, based in Stoke on Trent. They then persuaded some of the iconic designers and artisans to return and re launch the famous Living Glaze giftware and tableware.
The shop on Poole Quay had a new working studio pottery installed from where Alan White Poole's Master Potter of over 40 years was able to work helping to design the new ranges as well as developing the Poole Studio range of one off bespoke pieces. The working studio has become a favorite with residents and visitors enabling them to see every stage of the complex processes that go into production of each piece of pottery as well as being able to talk to the potters and painters who work there.
Poole Pottery was formed in 1873, when a Surrey entrepreneur and builder Jesse Carter bought the bankrupt T W Walkers Patent Encaustic and Mosaic Ornamental Brick and Tile Manufactory on Poole's East Quay; he started Carter, Stabler and Adams which then became Poole Pottery. Initially the factory made tile and architectural pottery before moving into manufacturing pottery giftware and tableware in the early 1900s. By 1960s it was said that Poole Pottery was represented in shops in every high street in the country.
Highly collected designers and potters like Guy Sydenham, Tony Morris and Barbara Linley Adams have all worked for Poole Pottery helping to shape the iconic designs and many of their ideas are still influencing today's production..
This exciting new edition of ‘Poole Pottery’ is launching at Poole Pottery on Poole Quay on Saturday 14th May 2011 from 2.30pm. Form an orderly queue…
